Requirements for Major

Kinesiology & Health Sciences prepares students for a wide variety of academic and professional pursuits in fields that specialize in human body movement and its effect on human health. An emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion in society is opening opportunities in a variety of health related areas including physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistants, nursing, public health, medicine, nutrition, aging studies, and sports related fields. Our department’s focus is to prepare undergraduate students for post-graduate education and subsequent professional careers in those fields. Since ours is exclusively a baccalaureate degree awarding department, all of our teaching and research efforts are dedicated to our undergraduate students.

Students can elect to earn a B.A. or B.S. in Kinesiology & Health Sciences or choose one of three concentrations as a Kinesiology & Health Sciences major: a B.S. in Kinesiology & Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Sciences;  a B. S. in Kinesiology & Health Sciences with a concentration in Premed; or a B.S. in Kinesiology & Health Sciences with a concentration in Public Health.

Candidates for the B.S. degree with a primary major in Kinesiology and Health Sciences must successfully complete, in addition to the NQR requirement, five other courses in any combination of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, or Physics.  KINE 303 and 304 may count toward these five.

Activity Classes

The Activity Program of the Kinesiology & Health Sciences Department provides the College community with a variety of courses and services such that students have an opportunity to be physically active and challenged during their college years. These courses provide experiences to develop and demonstrate a level of fitness and physical proficiency and encourage the students to internalize values enabling them to remain physically active through their lifetime.
