William & Mary was founded by royal charter in 1693 and has a rich heritage. Academic excellence and rigor are evident at all levels of the institution, where more than 6,000 students pursue baccalaureate degrees and more than 2,000 engage in graduate study. William & Mary’s graduate offerings span five faculties and graduate schools, each of which has a section in this Catalog describing its programs, research, and courses.
