AMST 150W - Freshman Seminar. Fall and Spring (4) Weiss, Scholnick
The Other America: Literature of the Caribbean. Fall (4), Weiss. We explore the origins of the “New World” through the literature and history of the Caribbean by a disparate and brilliant group of writers. We will consider the ties and gaps in this microcosm of European Colonialism. These works in French, Spanish (in translation) and English, articulate and interrogate the complex legacy of European Conquest in the Caribbean.
Literature and Medicine. Fall (4), Scholnick. Although medicine is constantly being transformed by scientific advances, it remains both art and science, devoted to the health of the whole person. We will explore the healing relationship through writings by American physicians, including Williams, Saks, Selzer,Verghese, and Groopman.
