EDUC 310 - Social, Philosophical, Cultural & Historical Foundations of American Education Credits: (3)
An introduction to the socio-philosophical-historical context of schooling in the United States. The primary purpose of Education 310 is to help prospective teachers understand the complexities and practicalities of teaching in public schools and thus enable them to reflect informed actions and decisions in their professional practice. Readings, case studies, and field experiences present students with realistic classroom or school-based scenarios in order to increase their awareness of the complex dimensions of their future roles, prepare them to assess possible avenues for decision making, and encourage them to anticipate situations and dilemmas so as to be better equipped to deal with them. |
