LAW 619 - Supreme Court Seminar

Fall (2-3) Neal Devins

This course will look at the Court’s most recent term, the current term, and consider the relationship of the Court to other parts of government and elite interests (including the media and the Federalist Society); this course will also provide students with an opportunity to meet with Justice Amy Barrett at the Supreme Court (and probably attend oral arguments).  Our Washington D.C. field trip will also include meetings with leading Supreme Court advocates and probably a D.C. Circuit judge.  We will also meet with federal appeals judges and Supreme Court advocates in Williamsburg (sometimes through zoom). Students are also expected to attend the moot court at the Supreme Court Preview (September 10) and some Supreme Court Preview panels on September 11. We will meet most but not all weeks at the regularly scheduled time. There is no exam; students will write three memos of around 5-6 pages.
