KINE 410 - Writing in the Health Sciences

Credits: (3)
College Curriculum: COLL 400
In a supportive environment, participants in this course will have the opportunity to improve their academic writing skills. The course is designed to help students take their papers from classroom quality to journal quality, and along the way, overcome any anxiety they may have about academic writing. In addition to revising a paper, students will also work on two additional writing assignments, an op-ed, and a social media strategy. Throughout the course, students will engage in critical analysis and synthesis of their work, abstracting their articles to ensure that their purpose, methods, and results are clear and concise. They will also advance their arguments by identifying gaps in the literature, critically analyzing data, and selecting appropriate theoretical models. Each week builds upon the previous one, allowing students to thoroughly engage with the writing process and develop a strong understanding of the principles of academic writing, including critical analysis, synthesis, and effective communication of their ideas. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of how to communicate their ideas effectively in various forms of writing.
