DATA 101 - Demystifying Data

Credits: (3)
From tables of numbers to images or raw text, data comes in many different forms. Even the most basic Data Science techniques require not only a familiarity with how data is represented, but also knowledge of programming and mathematics to derive meaningful results from the data. This course introduces students to different modalities of data and some of the basics of processing and analyzing them using the Python programming language. No prior programming experience is required, and all mathematical concepts will be built from the ground up. Students completing this course will gain a better understanding of different ways in which data is represented, develop basic programming skills, and be exposed to basic mathematical concepts as they are applied in the context of Data Science. Upon successfully completing the course, students will be well equipped to begin more in-depth studies of Data Science, and/or be more informed citizens in a world where Data Science and its applications are rapidly proliferating.
