MSCI 672 - Ecology of Fishes

This is an ecology course in which we focus on fishes. We will consider key concepts and questions in ecology using both terrestrial and marine literature, with fishes as our focal group. The course is primarily focused on marine fishes and will assume some knowledge of oceanography. Topics fall under the broad concepts of autecology, community ecology, biogeography and global change. The course includes an individual project, which students should use to focus on their own study system or species.

The course does not provide detailed treatment of systematics, morphology (MSCI 666 - Ichthyology ), physiology (MSCI 529 - Fish Physiology ; MSCI 655 - Marine Physiology Ecology ), population ecology ( MSCI 671 - Fisheries Population Dynamics ), parasitoid ecology (MSCI 559 - Parasitology ), genetics (MSCI 583 - Molecular Genetic Data Analysis, Bioinformatics ), or management.
