MSCI 620C - Coastal Environments of Belize

An overview of coastal marine science issues in Belize. A unique opportunity to experience human-nature interactions in a low-latitude mixed carbonate and clastic environment highlighting a 7- day field experience. The course will explore the geological and biological factors controlling the dominate carbonate and reef environments. Policy issues that relate to fisheries management and the natural and human impacts on coral reefs will be discussed in lecture and through interaction with local managers during the field experience.
