MSCI 505 - Fundamentals of Science Communication

This foundational course aims to provide first-semester M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. students with essential skills for effective communication across disciplines. The course introduces students to key concepts in scientific communication and public speaking, providing resources for developing oral communication skills and fostering a supportive environment for practice and peer feedback. Additionally, it introduces students to the interdisciplinary nature of marine science, sets expectations for responsible research conduct, encourages engagement with professional development offerings from the Batten School & VIMS, and strengthens community building among incoming students.
