GEOL 516 - Environmental Geochemistry

Credits: (3) Prerequisite(s): GEOL 101

The reactions and processes covered in this class have a profound impact on water quality, human health, ecosystem functioning, climate, and the evolution of landscapes. In this class we work to understand the biogeochemical reactions that control the chemistry of natural waters, the production & distribution of soils, the origin & fate of contaminants in the environment, and the global carbon cycle. Concepts and skills learned here will be applicable to students in geology, biology, chemistry, engineering, agriculture, and anyone with a general interest in environmental quality.
