LAW 667 - Virginia Environmental Law Practice

Virginia Environmental Law Practice: This mini-course offers an in-depth exploration of Virginia’s distinct environmental laws, complementing traditional environmental law curricula that primarily emphasize federal and black-letter law. Students will gain a nuanced understanding of the Commonwealth’s legal landscape through focused coverage of topics including water, air, land, waste management, submerged bottomlands, wildlife, and energy.
Building on the foundational skills developed in the Lawyering Skills program, this course will also introduce practical elements specific to practicing environmental law in Virginia. Students will be guided through the essentials of navigating the Virginia Administrative Process Act, advising clients on state-specific issues, and sharpening their written and oral advocacy techniques. Although condensed, this course is designed to enhance the students’ ability to apply their existing skills to the unique challenges and opportunities within Virginia’s environmental legal framework.
