LAW 654 - The Statutory and Regulatory Path to a Clean Energy Future This course explores the laws and regulations shaping the future of power generation and consumption. Classes will address the legal obstacles to solar generation; the novel challenges of permitting and building off-shore wind; how the historical opposition to nuclear power could threaten this carbon-free generation; and the legal fight against coal. The course will provide a foundational understanding of the nature of electricity and how that nature has influenced the history and philosophy of its regulation. The course will also offer insight into the myriad career paths in energy law.
This is a pass/fail course. Students will be assessed through class participation and a written assignment due after the end of the course.
