MSCI 673C - Principles of Molecular & Phylo-genetics (Eukaryotes)

Spring, even years Credits: (2) McDowell, Reece. Corequisite(s): MSCI 673A

This modular course centers on producing various types of molecular data and analyzing this data within the contexts of population genetics and phylogenetics. Students will conduct a variety of laboratory experiments including extraction of DNA from environmental samples, microsatellite and SNP analysis, fluorescent in situ hybridization, and qPCR. Students will understand the principles of population genetic analysis including generation and interpretation of basic metrics and the principles of phylogenetic analysis including parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian algorithms. Refer to MSCI 673A  course description for additional details.
