THEA 482 - Directed Research Credits: (1-3) The Theatre & Performance department conducts academic and interdisciplinary research that is often based in practice or topic-specific fieldwork, in a range of different sites, and this work goes beyond the skills needed to create a performance. We want to encourage students to work with faculty researchers as assistants to gain important research skills that cannot be gained through classes, departmental productions, or independent studies. Students may also be able to co-author presentations and papers as part of this course. We want students to be aware of all of the different kinds of research happening in the department, which they can support and influence. Faculty research projects could benefit greatly from students’ input but the department does not currently have a framework for directed research. This course is different from an independent study as it will not be based around assigned readings/viewings and analysis, but hands-on and collaborative research to generate new knowledge and ways of knowing. Course may be repeated if topic varies. Students may repeat this course for credit but may not count for the THEA major or minor for more than 6 total credits in combination with THEA 411 Independent Studies in Theatre.
