Will be satisfied in the following way:
- When prospective majors, in consultation with a major advisor, fill out the form required for a declaration of major, they will specify which course of those numbered 300 or above in the chosen subject field is most appropriate to their area of special interest. This course will be the prospective concentrator’s Major Writing Requirement Course.
- At the time of registration for the specified course, the student will consult with the scheduled instructor to make all necessary arrangements for the series of opportunities to practice the writing of clear, effective prose, as the Major Writing Requirement requires.

Choose one course from the approved list below in each of the following areas. A course listed in two categories may satisfy the requirement in either of the categories, but not in both. Also, a course used to satisfy the core requirements may not also be counted as satisfying an area requirement.
Additional Area Requirement Courses:
The following interdiciplinary courses may count toward any or all of the area requirements (literature, history, archaeology) in a particular semester, depending on the aspects of the topic that the professor teaching the course that semester emphasizes. Students may view the attributes of the course to see which requirements it could count toward in a particular semester. An individual course may be counted toward only one of the subject requirements that it potentially fulfills.
